The collection was inspired our relationship with the human body. Looking at the work of Hans Bellmer, who stood against the body ideals of the new German state by creating sculptures of unconventional body forms, we championed the idea that something you traditionally and socially accept as ‘whole’ and seemingly ‘perfect’ can be deconstructed in unconventional ways and still be considered just as beautiful.
Inspired by imperfect geometry and rejecting the soft curves and round sockets of Bellmer’s doll silhouettes, we moved instead towards imperfect squares. Through a collaboration with by British Artist Tom Leamon we hand painted youthful marks onto silk satins and British heritage wools.
Our unique catwalk casting included a diverse lineup of models with disabilities, plus sized models and models from a multitude of ethnic backgrounds.
